3 John 1

(1) The elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth. (2) Beloved, I wish that in all things you may be prospered and be healthy, just as your soul is prospered. (3) For I rejoiced greatly when brothers came and testified to your truth, just as you walk in truth. (4) I have no greater joy than this — that I hear my children walking in truth.

(5) Beloved, you do a faithful thing in whatever you do for the brothers, and especially for strangers, (6) who testified to your love before the assembly, and whom you will do well to send forward worthily of God. (7) For they went out for the sake of the name, taking nothing from the nations. (8) Therefore we ought to receive such ones, so that we might become fellow-workers with the truth.

(9) I wrote something to the assembly; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not receive us. (10) For this reason, if I come, I will bring to mind his works that he does — talking nonsense about us with evil words; and not being content with that, he does not himself receive the brothers, and he hinders those who wish to, and he throws them out of the assembly.

(11) Beloved, do not imitate the evil, but the good. The one doing good is from God; the one doing evil has not seen God. (12) Demetrius has been testified to by all, and by the truth itself; and we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.

(13) I had many things to write to you, but I do not wish to write to you with ink and pen. (14) But I hope to see you immediately, and we will speak mouth to mouth. (15) Peace to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
