1 Timothy 1

(1) Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the command of God our savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, (2) to Timothy, a genuine child in faith: grace, mercy, peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our lord.

(3) Just as I urged you, when I was going to Macedonia, to remain in Ephesus, so that you might command certain ones not to teach different doctrine (4) nor to devote attention to myths and endless genealogies, which provide speculations rather than the stewardship of God that is in faith. (5) But the goal of the command is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and an unhypocritical faith. (6) From these some, having missed the mark, turned aside to empty talk, (7) wanting to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say nor the things about which they make solemn assertions.

(8) But we know that the law is good, if anyone uses it lawfully, (9) knowing this: that law is not laid down for the righteous, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, (10) for the sexually immoral, for men who lie with males, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that opposes the healthy teaching, (11) according to the glad-tidings of the glory of the blessed God, with which I was entrusted.

(12) I give thanks to the one who empowered me — Christ Jesus our lord — because he considered me faithful, placing me into service, (13) though formerly I was a slanderer and a persecutor and an insolent man. But I was shown mercy, because I acted in ignorance, in unbelief. (14) And the grace of our lord superabounded, with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. (15) Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. (16) But because of this I was shown mercy, so that in me, the first, Christ Jesus might display his entire patience, as a pattern for those about to believe in him for eternal life. (17) Now to the king of the ages, incorruptible, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory to the ages of the ages. Amen.

(18) This command I entrust to you, child Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made about you, so that by them you might wage the good warfare, (19) holding faith and a good conscience, which some, having thrust away, were shipwrecked concerning the faith. (20) Of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to the Adversary, so that they might be disciplined not to slander.

1 Timothy 2

(1) Therefore I exhort, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, (2) for kings and all those who are in high position, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. (3) This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our savior, (4) who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men: man Christ Jesus, (6) who gave himself as a ransom in exchange for all — the testimony at its own proper times — (7) for which I was appointed a herald and an apostle (I speak the truth, I do not lie), a teacher of the nations in faith and truth.

(8) I want, therefore, the men to pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dispute. (9) Likewise also the women, in modest apparel, with modesty and sobriety, adorning themselves — not with braids and gold or pearls or expensive clothing, (10) but through good works, as is fitting for women who profess godliness. (11) Let a woman learn in quietness, in all submission. (12) But I do not permit a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness. (13) For Adam was formed first, then Eve; (14) and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been beguiled, has fallen into transgression. (15) But she will be saved through the childbearing — if they remain in faith and love and holiness, with sobriety.

1 Timothy 3

(1) Faithful is the saying: if anyone reaches after oversight, he desires a good work. (2) Therefore the overseer must be above reproach, a husband of one wife, sober, sensible, respectable, hospitable, skillful in teaching, (3) not given to wine, not violent, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not loving money. (4) He must manage his own house well, having children in submission with all dignity. (5) But if anyone does not know how to manage his own house, how will he care for the assembly of God? (6) He must not be a new convert, lest, having been puffed up, he fall into the judgment of the devil. (7) Moreover, he must have a good testimony from those outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

(8) Deacons likewise: dignified, not double-tongued, not devoted to much wine, not greedy of shameful gain, (9) holding the mystery of the faith in a clean conscience. (10) And let these also be tested first; then let them serve, being irreproachable. (11) Women likewise: dignified, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. (12) Let deacons be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. (13) For those who have served well procure for themselves a good standing and much boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

(14) I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you shortly. (15) But if I delay, so that you may know how one ought to conduct oneself in the house of God, which is the assembly of the living God, pillar and foundation of the truth. (16) And confessedly, great is the mystery of godliness: who was manifested in flesh, vindicated in spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed in the world, taken up in glory.

1 Timothy 4

(1) But the spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith, devoting attention to deceiving spirits and to teachings of demons, (2) through the hypocrisy of liars, seared in their own conscience, (3) forbidding marriage, commanding to abstain from foods which God created for partaking with thanksgiving by the believers and those who have come to know the truth. (4) For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected when received with thanksgiving, (5) for it is consecrated through the word of God and intercession.

(6) Laying these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being nourished in the words of the faith and of the good teaching which you have followed. (7) But refuse profane and old-womanish myths, and train yourself for godliness. (8) For bodily training is useful for little, but godliness is useful for all things, holding promise of the life that now is and of the one that is coming. (9) Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptance. (10) For to this end we toil and contend, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is a savior of all men, especially of believers.

(11) Command these things and teach. (12) Let no one despise your youth, but become an example for the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. (13) Until I come, devote attention to the reading, to the exhortation, to the teaching. (14) Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the body of elders. (15) Practice these things; be in them, so that your progress may be manifest to all. (16) Pay attention to yourself and to the teaching; continue in them, for by doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

1 Timothy 5

(1) Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father; younger men as brothers; (2) older women as mothers; younger women as sisters, in all purity.

(3) Honor widows who are really widows. (4) But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness toward their own household and to repay their foreparents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God. (5) But she who is really a widow and has been left alone has set her hope on God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day. (6) But she who lives in self-indulgence is dead even while living. (7) And command these things, so that they may be above reproach. (8) But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for household members, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

(9) Let a widow be enrolled only if she is at least sixty years old, a wife of one man, (10) having a reputation for good works: if she brought up children, if she welcomed strangers, if she washed the feet of the holy ones, if she assisted the oppressed, if she devoted herself to every good work. (11) But refuse younger widows, for when they grow wanton against Christ, they want to marry, (12) incurring judgment because they have annulled their first pledge of allegiance. (13) And at the same time, they also learn to be idle, going around houses, and not only idle but also chatterers and busybodies, saying things they should not. (14) Therefore I want younger women to marry, to bear children, to manage households, to give the opponent no opportunity for reviling. (15) For already some have turned aside after the Adversary. (16) If any believing woman has widows, let her assist them, and let not the assembly be burdened, so that it may assist those who are really widows.

(17) Let the elders who lead well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who toil in word and teaching. (18) For the scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox treading out grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his wages.” (19) Do not accept an accusation against an elder, except on the basis of two or three witnesses. (20) Rebuke those who sin in the presence of all, so that the rest also may have fear.

(21) I solemnly charge you, before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these things without prejudice, doing nothing according to partiality. (22) Lay hands hastily on no one; do not share in the sins of others; keep yourself pure. (23) No longer drink water only, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent illnesses. (24) The sins of some men are clearly evident, going before them to judgment; for others, they follow after. (25) Likewise also, good works are clearly evident, and those that are otherwise cannot be hidden.

1 Timothy 6

(1) Let as many as are under the yoke as slaves consider their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be slandered. (2) But let those who have believing masters not despise them, because they are brothers; but rather let them serve, because they are believers and beloved, partaking of the benefaction. Teach and exhort these things.

(3) If anyone teaches different doctrine and does not come to the healthy words of our lord Jesus Christ, and to the teaching that accords with godliness, (4) he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but being sick about investigations and word-battles, from which come envy, strife, slanders, evil suspicions, (5) constant frictions of corrupted men, deprived of the truth, supposing that godliness is a means of gain. (6) But godliness with contentment is great gain. (7) For we brought nothing into the world, and neither can we carry anything out. (8) But having foods and coverings, with these we will be content. (9) But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires, which sink men into ruin and destruction. (10) For the love of money is a root of all the evils, which some, desiring, were led astray from the faith and pierced themselves through with many pains.

(11) But you, O man of God, flee these things; and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. (12) Fight the good fight of the faith; lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession before many witnesses. (13) I command you, before God who gives life to all things, and Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, (14) to keep the command spotless and above reproach until the appearing of our lord Jesus Christ, (15) which the blessed and only Sovereign will show in its own times — the king of those who reign and lord of those who rule, (16) the only one having immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no one among men saw nor is able to see. To him be honor and eternal might. Amen.

(17) Command the rich in the present age not to be high-minded, nor to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who provides all things richly for our enjoyment — (18) to do good, to be rich in good works, to be ready to share, to be generous, (19) treasuring up for themselves a good foundation for the future, so that they may lay hold of the really life.

(20) O Timothy, guard the deposit, turning aside from the profane empty-soundings and the oppositions of the miscalled knowledge, (21) which some, claiming it, missed the mark concerning the faith. Grace be with you.
